IAPD Partners with the American Heart Association to bring you the "Healthy Playbook 4 KIDS"
More than 17 percent of U.S. youth 2 – 19 years old are overweight. That’s about 12 million kids. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
The Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) has joined forces with the American Heart Association (AHA) and its Alliance for a Healthier Generation to help tackle the childhood obesity epidemic that is plaguing our nation. The Alliance is a joint initiative between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. The Alliance and Nickelodeon partnered in 2006 to create the Let’s Just Play Go Healthy Challenge – a television, online and grassroots movement designed to get kids to eat healthier and to exercise and play more!
Together, these organizations have created the Healthy Playbook 4 KIDS to help empower kids to make healthy lifestyle choices. This user-friendly toolkit provides various materials, information and resources on childhood obesity. You’ll find a wide range of tips, tools and ideas you can take back to your community to help combat this growing problem, including:
- Simple programming ideas from your colleagues that get kids active
- Facts and figures
- Tip sheets
- Special event details
